Happy National Cotton Candy Day!

Cotton Candy, sometimes called candy floss or fairy floss, is spun sugar. Sugar is melted to a liquid then spun in a machine and is served at faires, carnivals, circuses and theme parks. Part of the fun of cotton candy is watching while it’s made.

I remember the first time I saw cotton candy being made. I thought it was magic and still think there’s a bit of magic in the making. Cotton candy is one of my favorite faire and carnival treats second only to funnel cake.

December doesn’t come to mind when I think cotton candy, but maybe that’s the point of all these holidays that seem “out of season.” Maybe these holidays are a reminder of summer months and fun times spent doing summer events.
