I’m terrible with names. I usually come up with main character names, but secondary characters are more difficult. I try to avoid using the names of people I know, but all other names just disappear from my brain.

Generators, especially those with name origins and meanings are one of the most valuable tools for me. I don’t usually care if my characters name means something specific, but searching for a specific character trait gives me a place to start.

So, if you have trouble coming up with character names, give these generators a try. Sometimes just looking at the names, especially the fantasy names, can even spark story ideas.

I made a bookmark for my mother-in-law for Christmas, but I forgot to take a picture of it. I’m not sure why, but I forget to take pictures of over half the things I make for her. I made it from frosted clear seed beads with pink and purple silver-lined seed bead hearts. She’s commented several times on how much she likes it, so I decided to make one for myself.

The little slip of paper I have been using for a bookmark is so worn it feels like cloth, so I’ve been needing a new one. All my other bookmarks are in use holding my place in non-fiction books. I have a habit of putting bookmarks to hold places I might need to reread for research. Using sticky notes would make more sense, but I never seem to have any when I need them. Besides, making sense is banned in this household.

Beaded BookmarkI decided to use square stitch over peyote stitch because it bends nicely where it sticks out of the top of the book. I find making my own patterns easier with square stitch anyway.

I was going to make it about the size of a normal bookmark, but instead made it the width and length I would have made a bracelet. So, if I ever decide to, I can turn it into a bracelet by adding a clasp.

All the beads are Czech round seed beads that I had in abundance. The pattern is simple and I felt a little lazy not coming up with something more creative, but I can always make another one. I have a few patterns I’ve been dying to try, I just need to get the right colors.

The great thing about this project, you can make it as wide and long as you like. You can have a skinny bookmark as long as a book, a super wide, chunky bookmark or any combination. My bookmark is 20 seed beads wide and about 62 rows long because that’s the size I made the last square stitch bracelet.

I’ve included some YouTube videos on the square stitch and how to decrease. I’ve thought about making my own videos, but there are already so many great instructional videos, I don’t think I could add anything to what’s already available.

I’m too shy anyway. 😛

Set in Connecticut during the summer of 1938, a cabin full of athletic boys in the Bible camp “Friend-Indeed” eagerly await their final member. Instead of a great baseball player they get Leo Joaquim, who can barely throw a ball. Their disappointment turns to hatred which brings evil to the camp.

Perfect no bake dessert for summer. A sweet, creamy and cold addition to summer meals and BBQs. With the addition of twisted lime slices on top, it’s also a pretty pie.

I left the lime zest out the first time I made it and it wasn’t “lime” enough, so I don’t suggest leaving it out.

You can make the graham cracker crust for this but I have to admit, I bought the crust because I was short on time.

When I was younger, I used to cut comic strips out of the local newspaper and post them on the fridge. Calvin and Hobbes was the most featured strip.

I wish I’d kept them all, but after time and sun damage, the printing became difficult to read. Thanks to the internet, I can still find some of my favorites.

My mom surprised my hubby with this gorgeous lap quilt for his birthday. His jaw dropped when he saw all the incredible stitching that went into it. He spread it out on the floor and kept discovering something he hadn’t seen before.

Later, he placed it on his lap and I’d find him looking at it until his cat, Mirage, jumped in his lap and curled up in the middle of it.

Hubby's Lap Quilt - Front

I still have light issues inside, so I did the best I could with the pictures. It’s extremely detailed.

And of course, Mister Underfoot has already claimed it. Taking pictures without him in the middle was quite the feat, as usual.

Hubby's Lap Quilt - Claimed

He wasn’t very happy when I made him move so I could pick it up off the floor. I hung it over the back of a chair and he’s currently curled up in the chair pouting.

I posted pictures of the whole front and back sides, so you can see more detail.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment and I’m sure my mother will answer.

This is a family favorite I posted some time ago and finally added a couple pictures. I’m still trying to remember to take pictures when I make some of the variations, but we don’t have this recipe often due to the high-calorie content.

I also discovered something after making this recipe many times. If you stir the mixture after 30 to 45 minutes of cooking, it resembles more traditional baked macaroni and cheese. If you don’t stir, it comes out more like layers with the top being a fluffy cheese layer.

Cook Time

Cook Time
1 hr
Ingredients
  1. 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
  2. 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  3. 12 oz. sharp cheddar cheese
  4. 4 oz. mozzarella cheese
  5. 5 cups milk
  6. salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Layer macaroni, butter, and cheeses in a 9-by-13 dish. Pour milk over the top layer.
  3. Bake for one hour. Do not cover.
Notes
  1. To prevent this dish from becoming too brown and crusty (I like the brown and crusty myself but I know some people don’t), cover with foil for the last 15 minutes of baking.
  2. Experiment with other cheeses!
  3. You can turn this into an entrée by adding your favorite meats and veggies!

Sometimes you just need a little push to get started or continue a work in progress. Generators can come in handy to give you some needed inspiration or just to challenge yourself with something random.

I’m often at a loss for topics to post on my blog. I pour myself into writing fiction and there’s little left over for the blog, so I use generators to come up with ideas. Sometimes. Sometimes I forget to post at all. Generators inspire story and character ideas as well even if I don’t use the exact prompt.

Here are a few generators I frequent…

Daily Writing/Blogging and Photo Prompts from The Daily Posthttps://dailypost.wordpress.com/
Example – (Writing Prompt for May 28, 2016) Epitome – Write a new post in response to today’s one-word prompt.

Writing Prompt Generator from Seventh Sanctumhttp://www.seventhsanctum.com/generate.php?Genname=writeprompt
ExampleIf you don’t know about the starship, then it is too late.
This is a great prompt for a friend of mine. Considering sending it to him and seeing what he does with it.

Genre, Plot, Story, Character, Wardrobe, Name, Setting and more random generators from Springholehttp://www.springhole.net/writing_roleplaying_randomators/index.html
Example from the Creepypasta & Supernatural Horror Story Prompt Generator – At midnight, a lost woman and an insane witch want to transform an eldritch abomination into a disturbing television set.
Someone write this please. I really want to read it!

Daily Writing Prompt Generator from Language is a Virushttp://www.languageisavirus.com/writing_prompts.html
ExampleDescribe ways in which your character does or doesn’t show dependability.
I think I’m going to do this one. Could be helpful.

ExampleWhat gives you the warm fuzzies? Could also be, “What gives your character the warm fuzzies?”
For me? Kittens. Definitely kittens.

Another quilt my mother made for my daughter. I found it under all the sheets in the linen closet and took a quick, terrible picture with my phone before returning it to my daughter. We were in a hurry so I didn’t make sure the pictures came out. Mistake. Maybe I can get her to take some better pictures of it sometime.

My daughter was still using this quilt until she moved out.  She was pretty happy when I gave it back to her.
